ABBOTSHOLME School Chapel, Staffordshire
The Abbotsholme Arts Society was formed in 1968 by The Director of Music
at Abbotsholme School, Gordon Clark. The first concert was given in the
September of that year by the world famous oboist, Leon Goosens,
accompanied by John Wilson.
Since then the Society has welcomed almost 1000 artists to the superb
setting of the Abbotsholme School Chapel. The mainly-classical concerts
are of a consistently high quality.
The Society has also organized concerts outside its main venue in
churches, town halls and country houses throughout Derbyshire and
Staffordshire.
When Gordon Clark died in 1989, the Artistic Directorship was taken up
by Paul Spicer. Upon Paul's retirement, the position was filled by
Meurig Bowen, and he was succeeded this year by Richard Hawley.
